ONE ROOM CHALLENGE - WEEK 6

Welcome to Week 6 of the One Room Challenge!

It's been a long haul but we're finally getting around to the pretty decorative layers!

THE BOLD STANDARD

We're so excited around these parts this week because have the talented, Cassandra Schramm, of Accents By Cassandra, in the house.....or should I say, "in the Airstream"! She is an integral part of this transformation since she is transforming the riveted metal walls of this Airstream Argosy into Moroccan style plaster!

This is a close up sample of the plaster effect that we are adding to the lower part of the wall. We're painting the ceiling a deep midnight blue.

AND THEN we're adding gold leaf stars! Squeeeeee!

MODELLO STENCILS

One of the things that I love most about my job is that I get to learn about new tools and techniques on every single project! I'm not one of those designers that "plays the hits" because my clients are so unique and each project is so unique I'm continually being challenged and stretched.

We wanted to add a stenciled border to delineate the upper and lower portions of the Airstream. In order to do this, you have to use Modello Stencils which are vinyl stencil patterns that you can stick onto the surface while you paint or in our case, add the gold leaf. That's what's supposed to happen but for whatever reason, we can't get anything to stick to these walls and the Modello's kept falling off. Cassandra was finally able to find a solution by cutting them down into smaller segments and adding additional adhesive adding precious hours to the tedious process.

After she added the gold leaf stencil, she also had to add a sealer to the gold leaf to keep it from getting too much patina because of our proximity to the ocean. That's why it's great to work with professionals!

Gold leaf is gold that has been hammered into thin sheets and is often used for gilding. The most commonly used gold is 22-karat yellow gold.

FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE

Inspired by a particular shade of blue that you find in Marrakech, we decided to incorporate Majorelle Blue into our project. Majorelle Blue is a super intense shade of blue. It's known as the most magical shade of blue, which equates to.....I HAD TO HAVE IT! It has to be special ordered and it can't be color matched....trust me, we tried and failed! So we ordered the real deal and luckily for us it arrived just in time. We are using it on the exterior of the Airstream in larger quantities which I show you in next weeks blog post.

In 1924, the French artist Jacques Majorelle constructed his largest art work, the Majorelle Garden in Marrakech, Morocco, and painted the garden walls, fountains, features and villa this very intense shade of blue, for which he trademarked the name Majorelle Blue.

A SPECIAL THANKS...

I took time off this week to go out of town with my husband and Cassandra was awesome enough to not only paint but also document the process for me so that I would have content for this weeks blog post!

Thank you so much Cassandra, you're the REAL MVP!

ABOUT THE ONE ROOM CHALLENGE

The One Room Challenge®, currently in its twentieth season, is a widely anticipated biannual event every spring and fall. Each round, twenty design influencers are selected to take the challenge, as Featured Designers, and transform a space. Every Wednesday, the designers document their process while sharing their sources and professional advice over six (8 during Covid) weekly posts.

In addition to following along, everyone with a blog or Instagram account, is welcome to join the fun as a Guest Participant by linking their own room transformations each week during the event. Each Thursday, the internet and social media are flooded with interior design inspiration, ideas, and encouragement.

To date, more than 5,400 rooms have been transformed through the One Room Challenge®. The event, and many of the spaces, have been recognized and featured.
