Every year designers wait to hear what the Color Of The Year will be. This year, Pantone announced that Living Coral (below) is the 2019 Color Of The Year.
Was I surprised? Yes. A lot of the color in design has been trending towards the rich burgundies and deep greens from the 80's. Was I mad about it? Not at all. I love Coral. If you love color, I recently did a panel discussion about at The Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) in Las Vegas a couple of months ago where we addressed Coral as the Color Of The Year. You can view that discussion HERE.
My client recently called me in to help her update her guest room. She had guests arriving from Europe and wanted the space to feel warm and welcoming like the rest of her home. She had a tight budget and a tight deadline for this project. She didn't want to change the wall color or change the furnishings since the room had all of the function of a guest room it was just missing the Finishing Touches.
HOW TO INCORPORATE LIVING CORAL INTO YOUR HOME - TIP 1: MAKE A STATEMENT WITH CORAL TEXTILES
The walls of this room are grey. Coral is a warm color that really wakes up this space. I purchased all new bedding and used coral as the accent color.
HOW TO INCORPORATE LIVING CORAL INTO YOUR HOME - TIP 2: PAIR IT WITH OTHER COLORS
I purchased new wall art for for the space. It was mostly blues and white with little pops of coral mixed in. It keeps the space looking collected and not matchy-matchy.
HOW TO INCORPORATE LIVING CORAL INTO YOUR HOME - TIP 3: USE IT IN ACCENT PIECES
Coral gourd table lamps were the perfect shade of coral to pull the color scheme of this space together together. My coffee mug blended perfectly.
Note: it's important to keep the designer caffeinated and happy at all times!
HOW TO INCORPORATE LIVING CORAL INTO YOUR HOME - TIP 4: USE IT IN PATTERN
I spotted this area rug and love the way it added a touch of coral to the flooring and helped anchor the room.

For smaller scale projects, I don't bring in my professional photographer. These photos were taken with my iPhone but I wanted to share this transformation, I completed this whole project, which included shopping for all of the product for the space, in just a day.
