DISCOVERING COLOR AND INNOVATION: HIGHLIGHTS FROM TISE 2024, THE INTERNATIONAL SURFACES EVENT

TISE, The International Surfaces Show, is one of the industry events that I look forward to attending each year. In its bustling halls and dynamic exhibits, I always find myself completely immersed in a world of boundless creativity and bold expression, where the language of color speaks volumes.

My presence at the Surfaces Show served three purposes: the first, to explore the latest trends in surface design to incorporate into my firms design projects. The second, to host a Pulse Seminar presentation on Fearless Bold Color and the third, was to lead a Walking Tour of the show floor on Color Trends. When it comes to surfaces for the home, the landscape is often dominated by muted tones and safe choices. I've noticed this trend among many of my design clients—they tend to make safe choices repeatedly, resulting in what I call "Brown Town". I'm alway excited for the opportunity to speak about the transformative power of color as an agent of connection, emotion, and even nostalgia.

As I stepped into the bustling convention halls of TISE, anticipation buzzed in the air. The excitement heightened for me when I was invited to participate in an interview for TISE TV, hosted by this year's emcee, Julee Ireland.

PULSE SEMINAR - FEARLESS, BOLD COLOR:

I was so honored to be invited as a speaker on Fearless, Bold Color. The presentation, moderated by Sharon Sherman of Thyme & Place Design, allowed me to guide the audience through a vibrant journey of my past projects, offering insights into my creative process.

Throughout the discussion, I emphasized the boundless nature of color inspiration and the joy that comes from embracing bold colors. I encouraged everyone to find inspiration everywhere, reassuring them that there's nothing to fear when it comes to exploring vibrant hues. Instead, it should be celebrated as a joyful expression of creativity.

THE FEARLESS COLOR WALKING TOUR:

The 2024 Color Tour promised to unveil the latest trends and innovations in the world of design, and our journey did not disappoint. Here's a glimpse into our vibrant expedition:

EMSER - Exploring Endless Possibilities

Our journey began at Emser, where we immersed ourselves in a world of color and creativity. Their latest color selections mesmerized us, from vibrant subway tiles to captivating ombré effect designs. The unique installations showcased endless possibilities for creative expression, setting the tone for an exhilarating adventure ahead.

ADEX - Small Space, Mighty Impact

Adex may have a modest space, but its impact at TISE was undeniable. As a fifth-generation family-owned business, Adex welcomed us with warmth and charm, presenting their latest color and patterned tiles. Our group had the privilege of providing feedback on new products straight from Spain, witnessing firsthand the beautiful handcrafted touch that captivated us all.

NATURAL STONE RESOURCES - Pushing Boundaries with Mosaics

NSR's Mosaic Display immediately captivated our attention with its array of patterns and designs. From plaid to barcode, diamonds to chevrons, the possibilities seemed endless. Their mosaic customization program pushed boundaries, offering custom colors, shapes, and incredible mosaic art that ignited our creativity and imagination.

PROTECT-ALL FLOORING - A Game Changer in Flooring

Discovering Protect-All flooring was a delightful surprise, offering a versatile vinyl flooring solution for various settings. From gyms to garages, basements to outdoor spaces, its blend of functionality and aesthetics was unparalleled. The extensive color choices and customization options, including customizable speckles in up to three colors, opened doors to endless personalized designs. Protect-All flooring emerged as a fan favorite once we collectively began brainstorming all of its uses.

RIVA SPAIN - Raising the Bar with Innovation

In our opinion, Riva Spain stole the show as the Best In Show! Led by CEO Borja Iglesias, he guided us through a journey of innovation and creativity. From the interactive Design Lab to the captivating black and white striped room, each installation showcased impeccable craftsmanship and visionary design. However, it was the vibrant biophilic moss wall art installation that left us breathless, marking Riva Spain as a beacon of innovation and excellence. STEP INTO MORE COLOR AND PATTERN

I returned home with a camera roll brimming with visual delights! Take a leisurely scroll through the abundance of additional color variations and intricate patterns I encountered at TISE. From vibrant hues to captivating designs, each surface tells its unique story, inspiring endless possibilities for design and innovation. Get ready to immerse yourself in a world of creativity and imagination as you explore these snapshots of inspiration from the event.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

Attending trade shows isn't just about the products; it's also about forging connections with like-minded colleagues in the industry. Imagine my excitement when I unexpectedly crossed paths with twin sisters Leslie Davis and Lyndsay Lamb from HGTV's Unsellable and Rock the Block. I must admit, I may have indulged in a little "fan-girling" moment.

And, of course, I always enjoy running into my designer friends like Donna Moss of HGTV's Donna Decorates Dallas and Donna Moss Designs.

And Christopher Grubb of Arch Interiors Design Group out of Beverly Hills.

During our last evening, we had the pleasure of dining at Orla, an exciting new restaurant at Mandalay Bay. Recently opened, Orla delivered an experience unlike any other, blending innovative cuisine with a captivating ambiance. The menu at Orla tantalized our taste buds with an array of culinary delights, each dish crafted with precision and creativity. From artisanal appetizers to decadent mains, every bite was a symphony of flavors that left us craving more. The attentive staff ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Our dinner at Orla was truly a highlight of our trip, a memorable finale to an unforgettable journey.

As the 2024 TISE show came to a close, I left feeling inspired and invigorated, eager to bring the latest trends and innovations to life in our own design endeavors.
