COLOR TREND FORECAST: BENJAMIN MOORE ANNOUNCES "FIRST LIGHT" AS THEIR 2020 COLOR OF THE YEAR

Benjamin Moore's Color Of The Year, First Light was announced today! As a designer, I try to stay objective and really push myself to see how I would use this color in a client's home. I definitely lean into the more saturated colors so I started scrolling through my project photos (all 30,000 of them) and BINGO! I found just what I was looking for!

One of my projects, a historic manse located in one of San Diego's most sought after neighborhoods called South Park had the most gorgeous morning light that would stream through the east facing windows and warm up the home. This house had so many beautiful architectural details the morning sunlight would highlight. Just look at the effect of Mother Nature's first light in this historic home.

PRESS RELEASE FROM BENJAMIN MOORE

Benjamin Moore Welcomes a New Decade With “First Light 2102-70,” Its Color of the Year 2020

MONTVALE, N.J. Benjamin Moore, North America’s favorite paint, color and coatings brand, revealed its Color of the Year 2020 as First Light 2102-70 – a soft, rosy hue blooming with potential. With a new decade on the horizon, the industry leader took a fresh approach to mark this milestone. An approach that both embraces and transcends color to re-examine the concept of the home as we know it, while exploring how it will continue to evolve over the next 10 years. With celebrations in both New York City and Toronto, this much-anticipated luminary moment drew leading interior designers, architects, painting contractors, media and influencers to experience the unveiling.

“Color is powerful but highly subjective, especially through the lens of different generations, relationships and moods. But from the saturated to bright and airy, all are easy to live with and easy to love--whether they stand alone, in a strong pair, or all cohabitate.”

“We selected First Light 2102-70 as our Color of the Year 2020 to represent a new dawn of idealism, design and living,” said Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Color Marketing and Development. "First Light 2102-70 reflects a new definition of the home – a shift in mindset from the material to satisfying the core needs in life: community, comfort, security, self-expression, authenticity and ultimately, optimism.”

This modern definition of dwelling replaces long-standing post-war ideals, shining light on a new era of design rooted in fluidity for the multigenerational, multifunctional and different states of mind now found under one roof. Ten harmonious hues have been selected to guide us into the next 10 years and beyond, the Benjamin Moore Color Trends 2020 palette features:

“The Color Trends 2020 palette plays an integral role in supporting these core human ideals,” said Magno. “Color is powerful but highly subjective, especially through the lens of different generations, relationships and moods. But from the saturated to bright and airy, all are easy to live with and easy to love--whether they stand alone, in a strong pair, or all cohabitate.”
