My bachelor client sure knows how to throw a party! If you've been following my journey, you know that I've been designing his East Chula Vista Bachelor Pad for the past couple of months. Meet my client, Brandon (he's ALWAYS on his phone).
He threw a curve ball at me when, right in the middle of decorating his new home, he decided to host a HUGE Holiday Event! I had to quickly pivot from furnishing the home to adding some dude-friendly holiday decor! The first thing we did was head to the Christmas Tree farm for purchase THREE 10-foot Nobel Fir Trees. Then I was off to the races! The next day, I headed to Shinoda Design Center to purchase ALL of the decor for the trees!
Here are 8 Dude-Friendly solutions for Bachelor Pad decorating for the holidays....
CHOOSE A SOPHISTICATED MASCULINE COLOR SCHEME
I was determined to give my clients home a polished, masculine look for his holiday soiree. For the living room tree, I chose a color scheme of black and mixed metals to put a more sophisticated spin on bachelor pad style. It coordinated perfectly with our dark charcoal paint and custom wall art printed on aluminum.
NEW TWIST ON A CLASSIC
The party was going to be held outdoors so we added a tree outside as well. I decided to do a twist on the classic red and green color scheme. I decorated this tree in red, chartreuse and gold. I used extra large scaled ornaments and since my client and the majority of his guests all work in the Real Estate industry, I added large "key" ornaments to the tree as well.
A LIVABLE LIVING ROOM
I made sure that all of the new Christmas decor that I was bringing in coordinated with the new decor that I just added. It made the space feel adorned but livable.
PILE ON PILLOWS AND TEXTURE
A designers secret weapon is always pillows and throws. To make this bachelor pad feel cozy, I introduced new rustic red holiday pillows and faux fur throws for a layered cozy look. Red is also my client's favorite color so it also felt authentic to him.
ADD PERSONALITY AND FLAIR
My client, a single dad, has a larger than life personality. He had me design this whole room for his two children to game in. I wanted this space to feel whimsical and fun. We purchased a flocked tree for this space and purchase all new ornaments for this tree in turquoise, purple, fuchsia and green.
GO MONOCHROMATIC AND SPLURGE WISELY
This was a new one on me! My client wanted every single present under the tree to look exactly the same. To get that cohesive look (and to avoid wrapping) he heads to Nordstrom to purchase ALL of his gifts, then has them box everything up for him their signature silver boxes and ribbon for a uniform look under the tree! Can you say, BRILLIANT?? This isn't just a "single-dad strategy", this is a "busy professional strategy"! It's just straight up efficient! I think that I will have to begin implementing this one since I'm always blessed with lots of projects during the holiday season and little time to do my own Christmas shopping!
HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR
Design and decorating isn't brain surgery, it's a luxury. My client is a wild and crazy guy so it only made sense that we place an Art Deco Gorilla Statue with a Christmas hat on the breakfast table. No other adornment needed! Unexpected pieces that are masculine and make you smile is a no-brainer!
RELAX AND ENJOY
The party was a huge hit! It was a gorgeous evening!
