Happy New You, Happy New Year

I broke up with 'Resolution Making' a loooong time ago. And fuhgheddabout that long list of ‘goals’ that I used to create then forgot within a couple of weeks (within a couple of days, some years!). I do take the time to choose a word or words for the year. Last year my word was “Freedom” and boy am I ever happy that I chose that word! It truly enabled me to take a huge leap of faith and quit a 9-5 job that was a bad fit from the start and grow my Design Business.

Since your home is a reflection of you, I totally believe that it’s important to do some intentional clearing and decluttering. Your home can support you if you treat it like your partner in crime.

Today, I’m sharing how I clear my home to create space for all of the goodness that 2016 has in store for me!

  • Clear my year. I like to commune with the past year and celebrate everything I've accomplished. I take a look back on every project that I worked on this past year and give gratitude to my creativity for showing up in a big way. I also let go of anything that no longer serves me - thoughts, ideas, and old habits.

  • Clear computer files. The Digital Hoarder Life chose me, I’m working on it. I purge my computer of duplicate files, files that I no longer need and photos.

  • Clear my closet and drawers. This one is my favorite! I donated 8 trash bags of my clothing last week. I used the Marie Kondo Method of organizing my drawers and I’m hooked! If you haven't read her book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, add it to your list! Your welcome.

  • Clear the air. I’m a window-opener-upper by nature. Dr. Maya Angelou believed words are things and that someday we will be able to measure their power. “They get on the walls. They get in your wallpaper. They get in your rugs and your upholstery and your clothes. And finally, they are into you.” The quickest way to change up the energy in your home is to open up all of the windows to get the air flowing through it.

  • Clear the pantry, cupboards, refrigerator and freezer!I throw out spices that I never use, junk food and old condiments. I love it when my what’s behind the doors looks like a Pinterest Board (even if it’s only for a day or two).

  • Clear the laundry room. My laundry room gets hella' cluttered over the year! I put away ALL of the clothes, consolidate dryer sheet boxes, throw out empty laundry soap bottles and clean.

  • Clear the finances. Send out pending business invoices and check business and personal accounts.

  • Clear paperwork. This one is fairly easy for me, I’m pretty paperless but my desk drawers get cleared out.

  • Clear the page. I love to journal. I never leave home without a journal and I always have several going at the same time but I like to symbolically start the New Year with a fresh one. A blank book waiting to be filled. Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. So write a good one!

What about you? How do you approach the New Year? Are you a Resolution Maker, a Goal Setter or a Desire Mapper? I would love to know!

Happy New Days.

Happy New Desires.

Happy New Chances.

Happy New Blessings.

Happy New Year!
