PROJECT REVEAL: A STYLISH LA JOLLA HOME OFFICE INSPIRES PRODUCTIVITY AND CREATIVITY

A dedicated work space in your home doesn't have to be all work and no play. It can be beautiful and not only inspire productivity but creativity as well while minimizing distractions so that you can focus on work. This home office is located in the coastal town La Jolla.

BIRD INSPIRED INTERIOR

In many cultures, birds are powerful symbols because they soar gracefully through the sky and symbolically connect us to the heavens. In the past, birds were also thought of as divine messengers that can communicate our humble requests to the gods above. In Feng Shui, birds are thought to attract good fortune and create new opportunities. What could be better for a home office space?

THE ARTICHOKE PENDANT LIGHT

It is said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that's true, we must have the PH Artichoke Pendant blushing right now! The original PH Artichoke light was designed in 1958 by Poul Henningsen (that's where the "PH" comes from), a Danish architect and designer. With its world-famous unique sculptural design, it is iconic in the design industry.

FLORENCE BROADHURST WALLPAPER WHIMSY

Few improvements make quite as big an impact in a room as a bold wallpaper. I opted to do a feature wall in a Florence Broadhurst Egrets Wallpaper. Florence Broadhurst is a legendary Australian artist known for her bold patterns and iconic Japanese florals. This Egrets Wallpaper features oversized water birds and exotic blooms in beautiful blue tones.

HANDMADE CAMEROON JUJU HATS

Cameroonian Juju Hats have come a long way from being traditional ceremonial headdresses to adorning beautifully designed homes as contemporary wall hangings. The feathers of the Juju hats are symbolic of prosperity, and represent the wealth of positive qualities associated with birds. The feathers splay out into huge circles and make an impactful wall art for any home. Juju hats are handmade by artisans and not one is alike. In this space, I hung neutral brown tones to balance the cool blue of the wallpaper. I love the way it draws out the gold tones in the wallpaper.

HYBRID BLUE LOUNGE OFFICE

A hybrid home office/lounge means that my client can take a midday break to sit and cuddle with her poodles who use this leather lounge sofa to soak up the sun rays. This space can also host an overnight guest in a pinch.

HUMANSCALE LEATHER DESK CHAIR

Described as "the gold standard in office seating," the Humanscale desk chair was a must for my dynamic client. This beautiful leather chair blends ergonomics and aesthetics. It's suitable for the corner office, the boardroom, as well as the home office.

THE "BEFORE & AFTER" TRANSFORMATION

Because, we can't go on with our day without seeing what this space looked like when I arrived on scene.

The "before" photos were taken when I did my first walk through with my client when it still had staging furniture in it. What a transformation!

This room was small and dark before. It had a closet located on the left as you entered the space and ate into this room too much. We installed a pair of French doors to add natural light, removed the 70's trim from the vertical window and updated the floors by installing new wood flooring. We also installed a deck just outside of the office so that my client can step out and get some fresh air or sip her coffee in the morning sun.
