PROJECT REVEAL: MODERN SERENE MISSION HILLS GUEST BEDROOM

Welcome to our latest interior design project in Mission Hills, San Diego! Today, we're excited to share the transformation of an outdated guest bedroom into a modern and serene retreat. I love sharing all of the various steps it takes to revamp a minimalistic project.

OUT WITH THE OLD CARPET, IN WITH MODERN TILE FLOORING:

The first step towards modernizing this space was bidding adieu to the old, worn-out carpet. In its place, we opted for sleek and contemporary tile flooring from Stone Systems, my go-to tile distributor. This not only adds a touch of elegance but also makes the room easier to maintain.

A FRESH CANVAS WITH SHERWIN-WILLIAMS SHOJI WHITE:

To create a calming ambiance, we painted the walls and ceiling with Sherwin-Williams Shoji White, a cozy, warm, creamy white that borders on greige. This acts as a blank canvas, ready to embrace the other design elements that will bring this room to life.

MODERN PEWTER CLOSET DOORS WITH FROSTED GLASS:

Next, we turned our attention to the two closets in this space. We upgraded the old doors to customized modern ones featuring a brushed pewter trim with frosted glass. This not only adds a modern touch but the frosted glass softens the look of the surface, enhancing the overall atmosphere of the room.

TEXTURE AND WARMTH WITH A HANDCRAFTED HIGH PILE SHAG RUG:

To inject warmth and texture into the space, we incorporated a super high pile handcrafted shag rug, creating a cozy landing spot for anyone stepping out of bed. This is literally one of my all time favorite rugs from a company called CHANDRA that I discovered while at High Point and Las Vegas Markets. Its modern and its softness adds a luxurious feel to the room.

MODERN BENCH FOR FUNCTIONALITY AND STYLE:

At the foot of the bed, we added a sleek and modern bench that I sourced online. Besides serving as a functional piece, it's practically large enough to be a cot! It also contributes to the overall aesthetic appeal, blends seamlessly with my clients existing furnishings and ties the whole room together.

SUSTAINABLE TOUCHES WITH EXISTING FURNITURE:

We believe in promoting sustainability whenever possible. In this project, we integrated our clients' previously owned custom maple bed and nightstands, updating them to fit seamlessly into the modern design. This not only adds a personal touch but also reduces waste.

SCULPTURAL LIGHTING FOR A CONTEMPORARY TWIST:

To elevate the room's minimalistic style, we installed modern sculptural lighting fixtures. These fixtures serve as functional artwork, providing ample lighting while adding an artistic element to the overall design.

MINIMALISM MEETS COLOR:

To maintain a minimalistic aesthetic while infusing some depth, we incorporated colors like navy and charcoal, along with accents of blue and mustard. These subtle pops of color add personality and visual interest without overpowering the space.

LAYERS OF TEXTURE AND COZINESS:

To create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, we added layers of texture through well-chosen pillows, throws and we even added a textile over the headboard to add a touch of texture and color. These elements not only introduce visual interest but also make the space more inviting and comfortable.

ABSTRACT ART AS THE FINISHING TOUCH:

To tie all the design elements together, we positioned an abstract art piece above the bed. This artwork, consisting of neutral tones, adds depth and completes the modern, serene ambiance we aimed to achieve.
