PROJECT REVEAL: MODERN COASTAL GUEST BEDROOM

Is your guest bedroom "holiday ready"?

MODERN COASTAL GUEST BEDROOM MAKEOVER

This finished guest bedroom in the coastal town of La Jolla is cool and modern with a textured blue feature wall and green accents. See before and after photos of the space, plus check out some of my favorite design details.

MODERN COASTAL GUEST BEDROOM....BEFORE + AFTER

This bedroom was all function and no FUN.

GRASS CLOTH FEATURE WALL

My client owned a quality solid oak bed that I loved the shape of. Oak is having a moment again so I wanted to incorporate it into this space. I added a dark blue grass cloth feature wall to accentuate the gorgeous lines in the headboard.

NOTE: If you are new to using natural grass cloth wall coverings, you'll notice in this photo that you're able to see where the seams meet. For the most part, grass cloth wallpaper is made of natural materials like hemp, arrowroot, jute, reed or sea grass. Because it's a natural fiber, there is no pattern matching, that's the beauty of it.

SEA-INSPIRED SHADES

Shades of deep blue and sea glass green outfit this cool, modern guest bedroom.

TEXTURE + COLOR

I used a combination of texture and color to bring in the spirit of the coast: a casual vibe, blue tones, earth tones, textured finishes and an overall relaxed coastal vibe. Blue and green will always be an iconic color combination. I started with deep blue natural grass cloth wall covering, sea glass inspired table lamps, crisp organic cotton bedding and a cozy stonewashed knit throw.

COASTAL ACCESSORIES

Batik fish print pillow in indigo, books, sea glass beads and my client's collection of coral were the perfect finishing touch to this space.

If you need help pulling your space together for holiday guests or if relegating your guest bedroom to the "overflow" room is no longer sparking joy, then 2020 is a good time to tidy up, spruce up, and get your space ready for guests!
