BEHIND THE DESIGN: COLORFUL OCEAN VIEW CASITA

My client has a beautiful little beach house with epic ocean views. The house is cozy with no spare square footage so we decided take advantage of the ocean views and we built a second deck with a it's own little blue casita so that she had a little more room to spread out.

DESIGN CONCEPT

When we initially discussed the function for this space, we envisioned it to be a grown feminine retreat for lounging, reading as well as a space to paint while looking out at the ocean. We added a mid century inspired daybed then layered it with the softest vibrant Ikat silk velvet pillows. We built in a fully functioning desk to house art supplies as well as an artist easel. Right when we completed this project, the Stay At Home orders had just gotten issued in California so my client has been using this space as her full time office. Fortunately, we had the foresight to bring in an ergonomic desk chair as well!

ARTWORK & WALL DECOR

We commissioned local San Diego abstract artist, Pnina Gold, to create a couple of large scale artwork for this space. Then I added some color and texture to the space with a variety of handmade feather Cameroonian Juju hats.

WINDOW TREATMENTS

Because this is such a small space, I wanted to add a window treatment that had clean lines and sun protection but were also stylish and would give the space that 'wow' factor! Hunter Douglas' Designer Roller Shades fit the bill! As soon as my eyes landed on the textured fuchsia fabric, it was a full body 'Yes'!

We love designing outdoor spaces, Casitas and even She Sheds! Take the first step and book a consultation call to discuss your project.
