THE DESIGN DILEMMA
When my clients' called me in to help them with their cozy 1920's bedroom, they expressed that they wanted a space that was both restful and romantic. They already had antique furnishings that they had acquired over the years but the layout of the space was tricky because every single wall in the space had a door, window or built in.
THE COLOR SCHEME
Blush pink may be trending as the "new neutral" but don't under estimate the power of a beautiful purple. It is such a versatile color. If it's very pale it can be youthful and sweet. On the other hand, a saturated purple is bold and regal. I chose to go with a mid tone purple for my clients' bedroom project.
I spied a vintage area rug that my clients had rolled up and stored away as well as some art and accessories and used those as the inspiration for this room. The background colors were a beautiful serene agave, which was the color that I chose to use on the window treatments. Then I layered in textured neutrals to update and pull the whole look together.
THE BEFORE + AFTERS
This is what the space looked like when I arrived on scene. It was dark, the walls were dingy and it didn't feel inviting. I had the room painted in Simply White by Benjamin Moore. It really transformed the space and created a foundation for a restful retreat.
Before my clients called me for help, they were struggling to find the exact right color - you can see all of the painted patches of paint and post it notes. If you are trying to choose a paint color for your home, this is not the way to do but I'll reserve that explanation for another blog post.
WHAT I DID + HOW IT TURNED OUT
In typical "Rachel" fashion, I incorporated my clients' existing antiques and then pulled items out that had been overlooked and put away like the vintage wall decor, vintage clock, books and old photos in vintage pewter frames. These items really give this space my clients' personality.
