Back To Spanish Colonial Revival Roots

My client's home is located in the charming community of Kensington. This San Diego neighborhood was established in 1910 and is one of the most desirable neighborhoods, especially if you love Spanish Colonial Revival style homes.

WHAT IS SPANISH COLONIAL REVIVAL?

Spanish Revival Style is an architectural stylistic movement that arose in the early 20th century and was based on the Spanish Colonial architecture of the Spanish colonization of the Americas. This style was embraced largely in California. The Spanish Colonial Revival movement was popular between the years of 1915 and 1931.

SELECTING THE RIGHT SPANISH REVIVAL ELEMENTS

My clients are getting the historical designation for this this beautiful gem. It was important to my clients that we redesign this home simply to pay homage to it's 1928 roots.

THE FURNITURE

In this dining room, we added a beautiful antique Spanish Colonial Revival dining set with hand-carved details on the apron as well as on the dining room chairs.

The beautifully detailed light fixture added back some much need character to this space. We sourced it from one of my favorite antique vendors in Los Angeles that specializes in revival antique furniture and lighting.

THE BEFORE

It was nice but too contemporary for such a historic home.

THE AFTER

The space now has pieces that are true to the Spanish Colonial Revival era.

WORK WITH YOUR DESIGNER

When you're designing and decorating a historic home, it's important to take your time and make it feel like a space that's been collected over time. That is exactly what we are doing in this space. We will be layering in artwork and an area rug but the homeowners are patient and like to take their time with the their selections and sourcing from antique stores. It takes time to curate meaningful items so stay tuned for phase II of this room.
