INTERIOR DESIGNER Q&A SERIES: SHARE YOUR DESIGN PROCESS

Q. Walk me through your design process. Where do you start?

A.

THE DISCOVERY PHASE:

I always start with a Discovery Call. This is a free phone call that usually lasts about 15-20 minutes. I do a lot of listening so that I can understand the needs of the prospective clients to see if their project and my skill set mesh. There are certain things that are in my zone of genius and others that are not so I'm always listening for those clues in the conversation.

THE CONSULTATION:

EVERY project begins with an Initial Consultation. My Consultations are paid consultations. I give as much value as I can in our time together. This can be a stand alone service but typically it's the kickoff to a much larger project. In this consultation, I am walking through the space to get a sense of the the space and the scope of the project and listening to YOUR vision for the space because my role is to take your vision, elevate it with my design expertise and then execute it. Before moving onto the next phase, I scope out the project and give you an estimate of how much my design fees will be. We discuss your budget and once we are in agreement, I send over a service agreement along with the initial invoice to get the project started.

THE CONCEPTUAL PHASE:

In the next phase, I doing a lot of visioning and creating Concept Boards for your space to give you a visual representation of how I am interpreting the space for you. Once we decide on a design direction, I specify products, you approve them then we move to the procurement phase.

THE PROCUREMENT AND RECEIVING PHASE:

We write orders for all of the products for your project as well as schedule tradesmen to perform construction items and paint while we are receiving your items in our warehouse. Depending on the vendor and if your items are custom, the receiving phase can take 8-12 weeks.

THE INSTALLATION PHASE:

Once we have received, inspected and consolidated all of the items for your project, we will schedule an installation day. On this day, I show up with a truck load of furnishings, 2 movers, an assistant and a handyman and implement the design in your home and do the final styling of your space so that you can have your big reveal moment!

FINAL PHOTOGRAPHY:

The very last step for us before we give you your home back is photography. It's of the utmost importance that I document my projects. Plus, everyone loves a good ol' Before & After transformation! Trust me, you'll be showing them off to all of your friends and family too!

This is a very high level overview of our design process, every project is unique, so feel free to head over to the Contact tab so that we can set up a Discovery Call for your next project!
