THE BACK STORY
I have long relationships with my clients that pass through many seasons of their lives. My client, a Legal Professional as well as a Writer, Blogger and Podcaster, called me several years ago after a traumatic divorce to help her turn her home into a safe haven for her and her family. Since then we've worked on 13 room projects together. She's referred me to her co-workers and her parents to help them redesign their homes. And when her father passed away a couple of years ago, she called on me to help her re-envision his small apartment and prepare it for the real estate market.
Oh, and did I mention that we don't even live in the same state! She's in Arizona and I'm in Southern California.
THE DESIGN BRIEF
Relationship connecting space first
After dating for several years, my clients decided to purchase a home together and blend their two families. The home that they purchased had a large footprint. They decided to focus first on a space for them to connect as a couple and entertain friends and family. They are both music aficionados and love to travel the country to see their favorite bands perform live. They were in agreement about one thing. They wanted a music room to showcase instruments and concert posters from the shows that they have seen together.
“We both want bohemian functionality with a Dead Head vibe. We want to use the things we love as our art pieces i.e. guitars and concert posters and to live our best lives through design.”

HOW CONCEPT BOARDS HELPED VISUALIZE THE SPACE
Build confidence to make major furniture purchases
After filling out a questionnaire about their space, their wants and needs as well as their dislikes, I presented them with a Customized Color Scheme, a Furniture Plan to scale and a Room Concept Board of their new design. I overlay all of the products onto a photo of their actual room so that it makes it so easy to envision how this space will come to life once it's completed.

The RMI Process helped this couple feel completely confident about making major furniture purchases. They knew that each piece I recommended would not only fit in their new music room, but that it would also capture the look and feel of what they wanted for their space.

Pull it all together...
Once the design concept is approved, I sent them a list of the products in the Concept Board with shoppable links so that they can purchase with ease. Design isn't all about pretty furniture and shopping. Budgeting is a huge part of the process. I respect my clients budgets and they get a spreadsheet to show how I have allocated their funds to achieve their design.
As busy professionals, homeowners, side gigs and five children, my clients did not have the luxury of time to shop around and struggle to find the right furniture pieces for their new music lounge. I was honored to help them bring vision to life.
